The Future of Freedom (Wide-Eyed Article)
The Future of Freedom We talk quite a bit about freedom in the U.S., but I’m not sure how many people really understand what freedom is or even how freedom is related to time. What we call the future is really a past that will-have-been.
Professor of Communication Studies at Grand Valley State University, Past Editor of the journal Explorations in Media Ecology, and Past-Chair of the Semiotics and Communication Division of the National Communication Association, I am a Fellow of the International Communicology Institute, and currently serve as the Vice-President of the Institute of General Semantics. My books include Selfhood and Authenticity, Sources of Significance: Worldly Rejuvenation and Neo-Stoic Heroism, Valuation and Media Ecology: Ethics, Morals, and Laws, and Communication Uncovered: General Semantics and Media Ecology.
